In North Korea, the more things change…

Kim Jong Il’s gone, but it’s business as usual with KCNA, the North Korean news agency.  Time’s Lightbox blog is reporting on photoshopped photographs of Kim Jong Il’s funeral.  Bottom line is this is hardly new behavior from North Korea and some other states, and hardly surprising.  A bit of a stretch for emergency management, but I studied the use of manipulation of imagery as propaganda while doing a research paper on the technology and terrorism last year.  Ironically, it would seem that North Korea’s ham-fisted attempts at digital manipulation do shape their global reputation, just not in the way they had hoped.
